Earth Hour 2009

I've heard about Earth Hour since 2007, as it was done in Sydney at that time. But i only take it seriously since 2008, when it was proven that Earth Hour really helps in reducing energy usage worldwide.

Earth Hour was created by WWF (World Widelife Fund) to raise awareness about the climate change - Global Warming. As a person that lived in Australia for a few years, i learn a lot about Mother Nature and why i have to care about it as the developed countries like Australia really concern about the nature and climate change. Today this program, Earth Hour, which is pioneered in Australia, has been participated worldwide. And this year, 2009, our country Malaysia is joining this program.

In 2007-2008, Sydney cut their electricity usage for up to 8.4% during Earth Hour while Melbourne saved up to 10%. The reduction of electricity usage causes less (in fact tonnes) carbon dioxide to be released to the world and consequently the world will be a better place to live in (indirectly).

This year, Malaysia will take part in Earth Hour, and many TV and radio stations will be turned off for one hour, 8.30-9.30pm on 28th March 2009. As Malaysians, lets come and join this program, just turn off your electricity(non-essential ones) for 1 hour, and we'll wait and see how much electricity usage in Malaysia will be reduced.

Hopefully in the future, all countries in the world will join this program. So that our Mother Nature knows how much we appreciate and love it! :-)
